My experience at this beauty school has been a dream come true! I am excited to be a part of the Cosmetology program offered here with amazing educators like Amber and Daisy and the front desk staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I’m new at this program and already learned so much!

After being in the dental field for 23 years I decided to go back to school To follow a passion of cutting hair. ALVA was a perfect opportunity to get the schooling I needed to be able to qualify for state board exam and not break the bank. The speedy curriculum and flexible hours made this possible for me. As a Mom and full time employee I needed that flexibility. They were very accommodating when my work schedules changed. The teachers are very knowledgeable on current protocols and techniques. The atmosphere is relaxed but offers the competitiveness that is sometimes helpful in that drive to be better. As one of the older students, I felt right at home and enjoyed the young energy that filled the air. My only regret… Is that I did not do this 23 years ago! The beauty industry is always growing and very competitive when it comes to what you can make financially. I should have done this so long ago!
We put technique at the heart of your training. We follow a hybrid model of learning. This means you work through the theory portion of the curriculum on your own time, wherever it is best for you. Then you spend your classroom time focusing on doing, with in-depth demonstrations, guided practice, and hands-on experiences. Many of our programs also offer opportunities to work with real clients in our student salon under the supervision of licensed instructors. If you learn best by doing and want to build technique with hands-on practice, our school could be a good fit for you.
All of our programs offer opportunities to develop your skills working with real clients. The goal is to connect the techniques you learn in the classroom to real service expectations on a beauty shop floor. All services are provided by students under the supervision of licensed professionals.
No, we cannot guarantee employment. However, we do offer support as you take the next step in your career. We can assist with building a portfolio of your work to show a potential employer, help you create a resume, or even practice interview questions with you. We also try to keep students informed about potential job opportunities in the local area.
Alva’s Lemon Grove campus is the main campus and serves as the administrative and instructional hub. It’s home to our Cosmetology, Esthetics, Massage Therapist, and Manicurist programs. It also offers a student salon that’s open to the public. The Chula Vista site is dedicated to our Barber Training Program.
